Biography

Mike Pickel is the Director of Compliance & Regulatory Affairs for the Horsham Water & Sewer Authority (HWSA). Mike has a degree in civil engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and over 35 years of experience working directly for water and wastewater utilities. Prior to joining the HWSA, Mike worked at the engineering consulting firm of Mott MacDonald, and before that, he served as Vice President & Chief Environmental Officer of Aqua America where he was responsible for managing water quality and environmental compliance for approximately 1,400 drinking water and 200 wastewater systems in eight states. Mike initially began his career with the Philadelphia Water Department, where he served for more than 25 years in various technical and management positions. Mike was a member of the Technical Work Groups that supported both the Stage 1 and the Stage 2 Microbial/Disinfectant By-Products Federal Advisory Committees (FACAs) and currently serves on the AWWA Disinfection By-Products and Lead and Copper Rule Technical Advisory Workgroups. Additionally, Mike was one of the developers of the Partnership for Safe Water Program to support utilities pursuing filtration optimization for cryptosporidium removal.
